Committee Notes

Following the Annual General Meeting on Sunday 3 March at Bendigo and online via Zoom, the following committee has been confirmed: Maurice Hanrahan (Treasurer), Sally McPherson, Jess Tubbs, Clyde Lyttle and Ian Stanley. This leaves a number of casual vacancies and we encourage members to indicate if they are willing to support serving the interests of Victorian breeders by submitting a nomination - your input will be valued but if you're also keen to contribute your practical skills, we have a number of more active roles with things like the Breed To Succeed event and HRAC representation. Challenging times lie ahead for the industry more broadly and now more than ever we need a strong group leading the promotion of breeders and breeding in Victoria.

The next general meeting of committee will take place via Zoom at 7:30pm Thursday 14 March - nominations will be considered as the opening agenda item, simply send us an email signalling your interest HERE or by submitting a nomination form.

IMPORTANT GOVERNMENT LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS

Public feedback is sought on the draft Animal Care and Protection Bill and its supporting regulations. If the draft Bill is passed by the Victorian Parliament to become an Act, the new Animal Care and Protection Act would replace the current Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (the POCTA Act).

The draft Bill has been informed by previous public consultations which can be seen below. This is the last opportunity to provide feedback before the Animal Care and Protection Bill is finalised for consideration.

HBV STRONGLY encourages members to read the draft and where appropriate, provide feedback to the State government before the consultation period closes on Monday 25 March 2024. Community members, groups and organisations can make a submission and complete a survey about future regulations HERE. Supporting materials are available including a Guide to the Draft Bill and Frequently Asked Questions.

The season is now well underway and we still have a number of members who have not renewed - simply return that form or use the new, easy direct-pay function via the link below to take up membership for the 2024 season and help support breeders across Victoria.

A panel of graphic designers will select six finalists to be presented six images to a VERY special judge who will choose their favourite foal photo to grace the cover of all hard copy Stallion Guides in 2024. All entrants will also be showcased in a dedicated album on our Facebook Page, and the final six will feature in the Guide itself. Read full details with terms and conditions HERE.

Preparers - don't forget that there will be trophies and prizes on offer for the best presented yearlings at April's Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale taking place at Inglis Oaklands and proudly co-sponsored by HBV as a way of recognising and promoting professionalism in this element of our industry.
