Being Vicbred eligible is an attribute which has been sought after by breeders and buyers for many years. Breeders will be looking to produce a Vicbred foal in 2023 which will be eligible for the Vicbred Super Series, the various Vicbred Platinum Series, the larger Vicbred First Win Bonuses (including the Vicbred Pure $12,000 Bonus) and the less heralded, but equally as important Vicbred Breeders Bonuses.
HRV pay out over $1,000,000 per annum in bonuses to eligible Vicbred winners of any age restricted 2YO, 3YO or 4YO race in Victoria. These bonuses equate to 10% of the advertised stake and are paid to the winning breeder/s in addition to the breeders’ stake percentage. They can vary from $700 for a standard $7,000 race, right up to the big money races – for example a Vicbred-eligible winner of a $300,000 Breeders Crown 2YO Final will net their breeder a bonus of $30,000 on top of their 5% breeder’s stakes percentage.
The breeder bonuses are paid to the Foal Nominator (effectively the person who owns the broodmare at the time of foaling and registers the foal). These bonuses provide vital cash flow that assists in the production of future foal crops which serve to strengthen Victorian field numbers and boost wagering turnover to benefit the whole industry.
