From the President's Desk...

The Stallion Guide has hit our members' letter boxes and is no doubt being consumed in detail as breeders make their decisions on where to send their mares this season. We thank the advertisers and encourage members to support them wherever possible.

The Amarillen Matriarch, a new addition to the calendar for metro class mares who are a step below open class, represents an example of the advocacy your Committee has done on behalf of members with HRV and its racing team. Members will have noticed a steady flow of mares races throughout the middle of the year across all grades providing valuable prizemoney to mare owners in the lead up to the breeding season. HRV have used some innovative race conditions, varied prizemoney levels and added some features for both gaits. Given a significant number of race mares are owned by existing and future breeders HBV feels that it is important to support mares and improve their chance of delivering a return on investment for their owners.

SEN Breeders Week 2022

To celebrate the start of the season, SEN Track present #BreedersWeek - lots of interviews and discussions on breeding with the team every day this week 11AM-1PM - tune in live HERE.

TrotsVision HBV Takeover

If you missed HBV president Nick Hooper & secretary Brett Coffey on TrotsVision for our sponsored Matriarch race night at Melton, you can watch it all, with hosts Steve Cleave & Shannon O'Sullivan right HERE. They covered the breeding of the GR3 runners, the Vicbred program, the Stallion Guide and much, much more!

Could you perform foal CPR?

While HBV recommends using a dedicated agistment facility, if you plan on foaling down at home, now is the time to review your skills and understanding of the process and importantly, how and when to intervene. We've put together a range of articles, videos and other resources to support breeders HERE.

Ever thought about how you can support the wider breeding industry in Victoria? We encourage you to consider joining the HBV committee for the 2022 season and beyond as we search for two new members - want to know more? Have a chat to one of our current committee about how to join and what it involves HERE.

2022 Lightfoot Laurels & Amarillen Matriarch

Congratulations to member Pat Driscoll (Yabby Dam Farms) on breeding 2022 Group 3 Lightfoot Laurels winner, Imamaorijet (Quaker Jet - Sumthingaboutmaori), and to members Bruce & Craig Cameron and Peter Gleeson who bred Group 3 Amarillen Matriarch with Runaway Celebrity (A Rocknroll Dance - Celebrity Ball - Presidential Ball).
It was great to be a part of the TrotsVision coverage for the GR3 HBV Stallion Guide Amarillen Matriarch earlier this month. Our sponsorship of the Lightfoot Laurels and the Matriarch aims to both support mare racing in both gaits and to bring breeding content to the wider viewing public.

Stud Book Regulations

A revised edition of the Australian Trotting Stud Book Regulations have been released and we advise that all breeders but particularly stud masters make themselves familiar with the changes and deletions to these Rules from last year.

Microchipping of Foals

Harness Racing Australia have also advised to changes in the process for identifying Standardbreds. while HBV were informed by HRA that the removal of freezebranding would not occur until the chip reading app had been released, this appears not to be the case. Again, please familiarise yourself with the 2022 roll out of Standardbred identification HERE.

Vicbred Wednesday Winner

An appropriate Vicbred First Win Bonus pedigree this month given the Amarillen Matriarch coming up - take a look here at new winner Heavensway and his links to the legendary Amarilen bloodlines. You can read about the family and watch her maiden win in of our monthly series HERE.
