From the President's Desk...

Congratulations to HBV Committee member Jess Tubbs (and husband Greg Sugars) with the way they campaigned Just Believe in the Elitloppet recently. They did themselves and the whole Victorian and Australian industry proud and showed what can be achieved with their wonderful Vicbred trotter, bred by Yabby Dam Farms and raced by the Iona Trotter Syndicate. Whilst it was disappointing that he copped some interference in the run home, it was apparent to everyone on track that Just Believe very much deserved his spot in the race and would have finished just behind the leading group had he been afforded a clear run. It was clear that Jess, Greg and Just Believe had earned respect for themselves and the Australian industry and they will hopefully pave the way for others to campaign in years to come. The opportunity is ours to take on the international stage!

Whilst a small sample of one, it is clear that our best are world class and as breeders we should be proud of what we are producing in the breeding barn. Our pacers have been up with the best in North America and our trotters are on the cusp of being able to say the same. I encourage our members to dream big as one day you might find yourself watching your horses on the big stage at Solvalla or Yonkers.

Stallion Guide Bookings Open

Until Friday 23 June, you can book to advertise your stallion, product or service to the breeding community in 2023 through the IRT Australasian Standardbred Stallion Guide. Rates are reasonable for inclusion in both the hard copy and interactive online editions. Find all the details you need to book HERE.

After many hurdles and pivots, we are pleased to finally be bringing breeders from across Victoria the opportunity to come together, network, socialise and most importantly learn! As well as an expert panel discussing ways to make the most of your breeding investment and journey, you will have the opportunity to talk with industry suppliers through the trade expo, enjoy some refreshments and win some great prizes. More details will be released in the coming months but for now - make sure your membership is up to date, encourage your friends to join and mark this date in your calendar.
