Committee Notes

With the 2024 AGM approaching it is timely to advise that long-standing members Nick Hooper, Brett Coffey and Terry Lewis will not be seeking re-election to the Committee. Along with a casual vacancy or two, this leaves a number of opportunities for members to join the Committee and to potentially take on leadership roles. Members are asked to consider nominating for Committee including the vacant Executive roles (President and Secretary). This can be done filling out the Nomination Form and returning it no later than three days from the AGM. If you'd like to discuss what it means to serve on the HBV committee, don't hesitate to contact one of the current committee members (details HERE).

While the advertised online format via Zoom will still be available for those unable to travel on Sunday 3 March, the committee will be hosting an in-person AGM event for anyone who wishes to attend. The meeting will be held in the Bendigo Harness Racing Club's committee room at Lord's Raceway in Bendigo, starting as previously advised at 10:30am. RSVP to contact@hbv.org.au before February 27 or link in on the day via this ZOOM LINK.

The 2023 Annual Report will be sent with a reminder notice by email in the coming weeks and will be available on our website to download and view before March 3.

Committee Update

HBV was first approached by other Victorian harness Kindred Bodies in relation to a petition after it had been produced. By return email, our Executive sought time to consult with our Committee before responding. Notwithstanding that, the Petition was publicly released before HBV had a chance to respond to the other Kindred Bodies. HBV shares the view that the new Board of HRV should contain people with significant harness racing experience. On the back of a positive meeting with Minister for Racing Anthony Carbine in August, the HBV Executive will continue to engage with the Minister's office in relation to this matter alongside broader issues of industry sustainability and breeding sector support.
