Getting a Broodmare

There are many ways that you can secure a mare with which to breed, and include:

Buying or leasing a mare newly retired from the track
Buying or leasing a mare from an online marketplace or print classifieds
Buying a mare from Broodmare and Mixed Stock sales held through the season
Approaching studs and broodmare farms about surplus breeding stock

If you have purchased a mare, you will need to complete and return a Transfer of Ownership Form to HRV.

If you lease a mare, you will need to complete and return a Notification of Lease Form to HRV; this is a generic form but you should add 'Broodmare Lease' across Section 10. If you arrange to relinquish the mare before the notified lease expiry date, you will need to complete and return a Lease Surrender Form to HRV.
