On Saturday night, Vicbred horse, Crombie, smashed the track record for a mile at Yonkers, North America's premier half mile circuit.
In the $48,000 Open Handicap Pace, Crombie driven by champion reinsman Brian Sears, clocked 1.50 1/5th (1.50.2) for the mile, lowering the track record by 0.2 seconds.
Leaving from barrier four, Crombie raced midfield in fractions of :26.6, :54.4 and 1:21.8 before charging to the lead in the final quarter.
For Crombie, a 9-year-old son of Life Sign, from the Walton Hanover mare, Medea Me, it was his fifth win in 16 US starts. The former WA Derby winner was exported after finishing a modest 3rd on 17 April 2015 in a FFA at Gloucester Park.
