Congratulations to everyone connected to the ten maiden winners on Humbletonian Day 2019! This unique event for many represents the last chance in the season to notch a win and gave a card of nine maidens their final chance to clain their full $7,000 Vicbred First Win Bonus in their age group. A big thank you to Paul Campbell who did a terrific job bringing all the action to viewers via TrotsVision.
As a sweetener, Harness Breeders Victoria are proud to sponsor a $250 cash bonus for the breeders of every winner on the day; HRV also chipped in with a $1,000 Breeding Certificate and the Maryborough Club with an extra $250 cash bonus if the breeder was on course, as well as trophies and bonuses to the trotters from the Victorian Square Trotters Association - this year, the following groups claimed the chocolates:
Michael Fryar, a HBV member who bred the first winner of the Humbo card in 2018 and repeated the feat this year with 3YO colt SURBITON HARTBREAK. He is by Alabar's Courage Under Fire from Chill Factor mare, Queena Harts Lombo. This is just her second foal to race, and the colt has a full brother yearling on the ground.
CARTER MAYSON, another 3YO but a gelding this time, by Alabar's Auckland Reactor from Presidential Ball mare, Angel Spirit, was the second winner on the card, bred by member, Sue Wegmann. The mare has had three horses to race for two winners with her latest contribution a black Rock N Roll Heaven colt.
HBV member Dr Martin Hartnett took the $250 bonus with 2YO trotting filly ILLAWONG STARDUST, by Stallions Australasia's Muscle Hill from former Victorian Trotting Broodmare of the Year, Lunar Landing (Sundon). The mare has had six foals to the races for five winners, including stars Spidergirl ($317,000) and Illawong Armstrong ($221,000).
Members were represented again, by HIGHWAY HUNTSMAN, a trotter bred by Michael Grace, by Yankee Spider from Tarcisius mare, Coral Grace. The 4YO is a full brother to Spidergrace ($66,000).
SECRET IDENTITY, bred by member Dot Schmidt, won her bonus, a 2YO filly by Alabar's A Rocknroll Dance from Jenna's Beach Boy mare, Jerulas Shadow. The mare is now a 100% producer, having four live foals, all race and all winners. She has a yearling colt on the ground, a full brother to this filly.
Brown 2YO colt ALLSHOOKUP saluted for a $250 extra cash for her breeders, including member Shane Eeles, and R Eeles, Bob & JA Viney, and made it a double for Alabar's A Rocknroll Dance. She is the only living foal to race from Courage Under Fire mare, Ballendalla Baby, who now has a yearling American Ideal filly.
3YO filly SPEED DATING, by All Speed Hanover and from Chill Factor mare, Chick At The Bar, collected a $250 bonus for her breeder - also her owner and driver - Patrick Franklin. She has three live foals, two to race and both winners.
6YO mare, MISSUS MATILDA, saluted for owner-trainer-breeder Graeme Dalton in the last pacing field of the day. She is by Live Or Die from Beyond Comparison mare, Andrea Hayley. She had the honour of being star driver Chris Alford's 6,999th win, setting him up nicely to collect his 7,000th the following night at Bendigo! She is the mare's first foal, with a sister by Devilish Smile on the ground.
The final race of the day was taken by outsider, 3YO trotting filly DANCES, in just her third start. Bred by Raelene Sweet and owned by Niota Bloodstock's Ken & Jan Wills, the filly is by Morely Park's Bacardi Lindy, from Chiola Cola mare Im Tina Turner and is the mare's only foal to race.
We also wish all the best to outgoing Club CEO, Les Chapman and track curator Mick, and congratulations on delivering another successful Humbletonian in 2019.
