HBV President, Shannon Nixon, and HRV GM - Operations, Vaughn Lynch, met a couple of very special Standardbreds this week, and made a difference to an important program in our community with a $2,000 donation.
Riding for the Disabled Victoria works with over 1,200 individuals state-wide, of various ages, abilities and backgrounds, to develop skills and independence through equestrian activities. Many of the branches utilise retired Standardbreds in their programs, including Jackson and Oscar at the Bendigo group.
RDA Victoria was HBV Executive Officer, Desiree Pettit-Keating's charity of choice for the 2016 Summer of Glory Charity Cup, and won the organisation a $1,000 donation from HRV. The cheque handover took place this week with RDAV President, Lesley Hewitt, at the Bendigo branch which HRV awarded an additional $1,000 donation to help care for their two Standardbred steeds.
RDA Bendigo participant, Jordana Sayle, was able to give Shannon, Vaughn, and Lesley a demonstration of her riding style with Jackson, who raced as Spiritofthepark (Time Stands Still - Hartz - JJ's Pennant). They showed the group the specially built ramp access mounting block as well as her riding skills at the Mandurang South complex.
You can view an album of photos from the day, including the wonderful Jackson and Oscar, on our Facebook Page.
RDA Victoria are always looking for donations toward their programs, whether it be cash, equipment, feed, horses, agistment or volunteers - you can find how to get involved HERE.
