Our Role

  • Harness Breeding Victoria is Victoria’s peak Industry and Representative Body for all Standardbred Breeders. Importantly, it is a recognized Consultative Body with Harness Racing Victoria under its empowering legislation. The Association engages in regularly scheduled meetings with our State Controlling Body in this jurisdiction. HBV meets regularly and ensures that the Breeder’s voice is heard.
  • In doing so, as the Breeders representative body in our State it raises and discusses Breeders issues with Government, other HRV Consultative Bodies, and  other peer Breeding Associations within Australia and New Zealand.  In this way, it provides a unified focal point for advancing the interests of Breeders with both Harness Racing Victoria and Harness Racing Australia together with other Australian and Professional organizations. Our main objective is to promote Victorian-bred horses as an integral and vital segment within the Victorian harness Racing and Breeding environment.
  • So “if you want to have a say” contact the Association’s Secretary Ian Kitchin on 03-9419 5342 or by emailing him at  iankitchin@bigpond.com
  • Importantly, HBV welcomes both new members and the renewal of existing members, many of whom are families of industry participants passionate about the promotion and development of breeding Victorian Standardbreds. So join with us to promote our industry with positive and constructive initiatives and unified action.
