About Harness Breeders (Vic.) Inc.

The Association was formed about 30 years ago to protect, promote, foster and improve the interests of
Standardbred breeders in Victoria. It was also to seek recognition by, and work in association with Harness
Racing Victoria, Harness Racing Australia and other kindred organisations whether within or outside Victoria.

It was also intended to make known the purposes and activities of the Association by way of newsheets or
otherwise and to establish lines of communication with various sales companies to better sales procedures.

Over the years we have been a very successful Association. Some of our achievements are as follows:

• some 30 years ago commenced publication of the highly regarded Track Bred which is circulated to breeding association members Australia-wide
• produce the Australasian Standardbred Stallion Guide (commonly known as the Breeders’ Bible) which is circulated to over 8000 breeders Australasia wide
  and is also on the internet in both Australia and New Zealand
• started the Australasian Breeders Crown and were responsible for design of trophies which are still used
• had great input into formation of Vicbred
• first Association in Australia to present 2:00 pins (current 1:59)
• hold an annual Presentation Night where awards to value of over $7000 are presented
• hold an annual Breeders Crown luncheon
• responsible for formation of Australasian Standardbred Breeders Association, still the only National body
  in Australasia
• strongly represent our members at all levels and have consultation meetings with HRV on a regular basis
• have regular contact with sales companies and input into sales series
  

Sponsorship
Our Association has always sought to ensure that there are increased racing opportunities for mares and fillies. We are currently in a two-year $55,000 sponsorship agreement with Harness Racing Victoria that provides wonderful opportunties for future broodmares.

We are also repeating our sponsorship of a mares and fillies' heat and final at Bathurst which was hugely successful last year.

Awards
Each year we make presentations to breeders who are members of the Association and have bred Vicbred horses who have paced at 1:59 or better, trotted at 2:05 or better, won Group 1 races anywhere, won Super Sires Series finals, champions in each category of both pacers and trotters and also Breeder of the Year. Trophies are also awarded to Broodmare of the Year, Stallion of the Year and Juvenile Stallion of the Year. Awards last year exceeded $7,000.

Presentation Night
After 14 years at Bendigo we are this year holding our prestigious function at Tabcorp Park, Melton, the new home of harness racing.

Following the huge success of last year we will again have video replays of horses presented with trophies. Tanya McDermott will again by MC for the evening.

Overnight accommodation is available if you wish to stay the night at the 4 1/2 star rooms at Tabcorp Park, followed by a wonderful breakfast in the Bistro room. If eight or more stay there is a discounted price of $130. If interested ring Reception on 8746 0600.
